Meta Billing Hub Payment Method for WhatsApp
Add a Meta Billing Hub payment method by 30 Sep 2026 for WhatsApp Business Platform accounts. Service messages are charged from 1 Oct. Not an Onevyu price change.
TL;DR
If your WhatsApp number is on the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API), Meta wants a payment method in Billing Hub by 30 September 2026. From 1 October 2026 Meta charges service messages, and Meta says those messages stop delivering if no payment method is on file. This is Meta's billing change. Onevyu's price is not changing, and Onevyu does not bill Meta's fees.
This is Meta's change, not an Onevyu price change
If you are searching for a WhatsApp payment-method deadline, it came from Meta. Onevyu did not change its price. We do not collect the money your clients pay you, and we do not charge Meta's WhatsApp messaging fees. When those fees apply, Meta bills the payment method on your WhatsApp Business Platform account.
The search for a Meta Billing Hub payment method on WhatsApp has a short answer. If that account uses the WhatsApp Business Platform, add a payment method in Meta Billing Hub by 30 September 2026. The rest of this page is what Meta's own docs say, with links, and what they do not say.
Who this affects
Meta's notice is for the WhatsApp Business Platform. That is the Cloud API, and the WhatsApp Business Account you use through it. Meta names two groups: solution providers, and businesses integrated directly with Meta. If a CRM or inbox sends WhatsApp for you on the official API, including Onevyu, this is that account.
It is not a shutdown of the WhatsApp Business app used on its own. Meta's pricing pages are about the Business Platform. If the same phone number is on both the app and Cloud API, Meta's onboarding doc says messages you send from the WhatsApp Business app stay free, and messages sent through Cloud API follow Cloud API pricing. See Onboard WhatsApp Business app users.
Nothing in this change says Instagram DMs or Facebook Messenger stop. The dates below are about WhatsApp service messages on the Business Platform.
The dates Meta published
Two dates are written in Meta's developer documentation. The pricing page was updated 5 August 2026, and the page on service messages was updated 25 August 2026. Meta states 30 September 2026 and does not put a clock time on the payment-method sentence. Open Billing Hub and confirm the method is on the account you send from.
- Payment method by 30 September 2026. Meta says that if a solution provider or a directly integrated business has no payment method on file by that date, Meta will stop delivering service messages as of when they become charged on 1 October 2026. Source: Upcoming pricing updates for service messages.
- Charging from 1 October 2026. Service messages have not been charged since 1 November 2024. From 1 October 2026 Meta charges them per delivered message. The rate is the same as utility and authentication for that recipient's market. Meta publishes the rate cards. This article does not copy a per-message price, because the number depends on the market. Source: Pricing on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
- 1,000 free service messages each month. From 1 October 2026 each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month. Meta charges from the 1,001st delivered service message. Unused free messages do not roll over. The count resets every month, for each business phone number.
The free tier is not a substitute for a payment method
Meta published both facts side by side: the monthly free tier, and the rule that service message delivery stops on 1 October 2026 when a Platform account has no payment method on file. Meta did not say the first 1,000 still go out if you skip the payment method. Add the method even if you expect to stay inside the free tier, then confirm it sits on the messaging account you actually send from.
On the same day, Meta will also charge utility template messages sent inside an open customer service window. Those had not been charged since 1 July 2025. That is a template, not the plain reply described next. The rate card is on the same pricing page.
What a service message is, in plain words
A service message is a normal reply. The customer messages you. That opens a 24-hour customer service window, and every new message from them resets it. Inside that window you answer in ordinary text: a question, a detail, a time, a link. Meta calls that non-template reply a service message when a person sends it, or when a third-party tool sends it. Meta's own Business Agent is a different category, and this post is not about that product.
It is not a broadcast you send first to someone who has not written. Those are template messages, in marketing, utility, or authentication, and Meta already charges many of them. The October change is the reply inside the window, free since November 2024, becoming a billed service message. People searching for WhatsApp service messages charged in October 2026 are looking for that reply.
One window stays free for delivery. Meta says messages inside the 72-hour free entry point, opened from a click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Facebook call-to-action button, are not charged for message delivery. The table on Meta's service-message page marks service messages free inside that window. How the 24-hour window works for a coaching follow-up is in WhatsApp's 24-hour rule.
How to check whether you are affected
You do not need a developer account to answer this. Three checks cover the people who actually have to act.
- Decide whether this number sends through the WhatsApp Business Platform or Cloud API. A tool that connects WhatsApp with a Meta login is usually that platform. The WhatsApp Business app, with no API connection, is not what these pricing pages describe.
- Open Meta Billing Hub and look at the messaging account, or the WhatsApp Business account, for a payment method. View details means one is already saved. Add payment method means it is not.
- If a solution provider sends WhatsApp for you, ask which Meta account holds the payment method. Meta's deadline covers solution providers and directly integrated businesses. The screen that matters is the messaging account.
How to add the payment method
The click-path below is from Meta's Help Center article, Add a credit card to your WhatsApp Business Platform account. You need permission to manage payment settings on the messaging account. If you own the account, Meta says you already have it. Meta may ask for tax information with your business details. For cards, that article says Visa and Mastercard, and it says American Express and PayPal are not accepted. Cards are offered in supported countries. If your country is missing, that article is where Meta says so.
- Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite.
- Click Billing & payments.
- Click Messaging accounts.
- Select Add payment method for the messaging account you use for WhatsApp. If a method is already there, you will see View details.
- Follow the instructions and click Next.
- Add the card details and click Save.
- Add the business information Meta asks for, then click Save.
If your menu uses different words
Meta's developer docs link add a payment method to Billing Hub. A second Help Center article, Add a business payment method in Meta Business Suite, goes Settings, then Billing & payments, then Accounts, then the tab for that business asset, then Add payment method under Payment methods. If your screen says WhatsApp Business accounts instead of Messaging accounts, the job is the same: put a payment method on the WhatsApp account. Changing payment methods on the portfolio needs full control of the business portfolio, or access to manage finance.
Where Meta wrote this down
These are the pages this article is based on. If Meta edits them, their page wins.
- Upcoming pricing updates for service and utility messages — the 30 September payment-method rule, and what a service message is.
- Pricing on the WhatsApp Business Platform — 1 October charging, the 1,000 free service messages, and the rate cards.
- Add a credit card to your WhatsApp Business Platform account — the Settings path, and which cards Meta lists.
- Add a business payment method in Meta Business Suite — attaching a method from the Accounts tab.
- Onboard WhatsApp Business app users — app messages stay free after a number is also on Cloud API. Cloud API messages follow Cloud API pricing.
- Meta Billing Hub — the panel where you see whether a payment method is on the account.
If the client work is split across tabs
Meta's fee is one problem. A different one is a yes that lives in WhatsApp while the proposal is a doc and the invoice is another tab. Onevyu is a Conversation CRM for that close: WhatsApp Business, Instagram Business, and Facebook Messenger through the official Meta APIs, with the pipeline, the proposal, and the invoice on the same client record as the chat.
Pro is $49/month or $499/year, or ₹1,799/month or ₹17,999/year in India, with a 5-day Pro trial and no card. The plan details are on Onevyu pricing. Onevyu does not collect the client's payment, and it does not bill Meta's WhatsApp fees. You pay Meta in Billing Hub. You mark an invoice paid when the client pays you.
If you already use Onevyu, the short note on the connections screen is Connect WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.
Common questions
What is the Meta Billing Hub payment method deadline for WhatsApp?
Meta's developer docs say a solution provider or a directly integrated business needs a payment method on file by 30 September 2026. Without it, Meta will stop delivering service messages when those messages become charged on 1 October 2026. Confirm the method on your messaging account in Billing Hub. Meta does not publish a clock time in that sentence.
Are WhatsApp service messages charged in October 2026?
Yes, on the WhatsApp Business Platform. From 1 October 2026 Meta charges service messages per delivered message, at the same rate as utility and authentication in that market. Each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, then Meta charges from the 1,001st. The rate card is on Meta's pricing page.
What happens if I miss the WhatsApp API payment method deadline?
Meta says it will stop delivering service messages from 1 October 2026 for Platform accounts with no payment method on file by 30 September 2026. Meta did not say every WhatsApp chat stops, and it did not say Instagram DMs stop. The published risk is service message delivery on that WhatsApp Business Platform account.
Does the WhatsApp Business app need a Billing Hub payment method?
The deadline is for the WhatsApp Business Platform, the Cloud API, not for the app used on its own. If a number is on both, Meta says messages sent from the WhatsApp Business app stay free, and messages sent through Cloud API follow Cloud API pricing.
How do I add a payment method in Meta Billing Hub?
In Meta Business Suite go to Settings, then Billing & payments, then Messaging accounts, and choose Add payment method. Meta also documents attaching a method from Billing & payments, then Accounts, then the asset tab. You need permission to manage payment settings. Meta's card article lists Visa and Mastercard, not American Express or PayPal.
Is the WhatsApp Billing Hub change an Onevyu price change?
No. Onevyu's subscription price is not changing. Onevyu does not collect your clients' invoice payments and does not bill Meta's WhatsApp fees. Meta bills the payment method on your WhatsApp Business Platform account.
Will Instagram DMs stop if I miss the WhatsApp payment deadline?
No. Meta's notice is about WhatsApp service messages on the Business Platform. It does not say Instagram or Messenger inboxes stop working.
